Worcestershire have re-signed Pakistani leg spinner, Usama Mir, for the remainder of the 2023 Vitality Blast tournament.

Usama had a strong impact both with the bat and the ball in the first three matches of the Blast, where he was filling in for New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner, who was occupied with IPL commitments.

Consequently, Usama will now assume the Rapids' other overseas player position previously held by Michael Bracewell, who unfortunately suffered an Achilles injury and will be sidelined for six to eight months.

Paul Pridgeon, the Chairman of the Worcestershire Cricket Steering Group, expressed his satisfaction with Usama's performance and stated that he has signed on for the remaining seven group games of the Blast.

“Usama has signed for the remainder of the Blast and is available for the last seven (group) games. He really impressed during those first three games, and we are confident Usama will do a good job. It goes without saying that we are disappointed for Michael and hope he is back on the cricket field sooner rather than later,” said Pridgeon.

Usama himself expressed his joy at realizing his dream of playing county cricket and being available for the rest of the tournament.

“It was my dream to play county cricket, I realised that earlier in the competition, and I am delighted to be available for the remainder of the tournament.

“The boys have played some good cricket, and I’m looking forward to helping them win some more games and keep challenging near the top of the table.”

In addition to his participation in the Vitality Blast, Usama also made his debut in the LV=Insurance County Championship for Worcestershire during their match against Sussex at the 1st Central County Ground, where he managed to claim two wickets.
