India registered a massive 336-run victory over England in the second Test at Edgbaston, marking their first win of the ongoing 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

India’s win helped them earn their first points in this WTC cycle, moving their points percentage (PCT) to 50%, the same as England, who had won the opening Test at Headingley.

After trailing 0-1 in the five-match series, captain Shubman Gill led from the front, scoring 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second. India posted 587** in their first innings and declared their second at 427-6, setting a target of 608 runs for England.

England’s batting struggled under pressure, especially after they were reduced to 50-3 by the end of day four. Despite rain delays on the final day, they were eventually bowled out for 271, handing India a convincing win.

Mohammed Siraj starred in the first innings with six wickets, while Akash Deep took over in the second, also grabbing six wickets to seal the match for India.

With the win, India and England are now level in the WTC table with 12 points each and a PCT of 50%.

Meanwhile, Australia top the standings with a 100% PCT after defeating West Indies in their second Test. Sri Lanka are second with 16 points and a PCT of 66.67% after beating Bangladesh in their recent series.

Bangladesh sit fifth with four points and a 16.67 PCT, while West Indies are at the bottom of the table after suffering opening losses.

Meanwhile, Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand are yet to begin their WTC 2025-27 campaigns.
