New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan issued a sharp retort on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a Pakistani fan's comment criticizing the Blackcaps' recent struggles in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

The Black Caps are on the verge of being eliminated from the T20 World Cup following a 13-run defeat to co-hosts West Indies on June 12.

A Pakistani fan took to X, claiming that New Zealand players prioritized money over their national duties by choosing to play in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) instead of preparing for the World Cup on the Pakistan tour.

The fan's post read, "This is what happens when you prefer money over national duty. New Zealand had a great chance to prepare themselves for World Cup 2024 on Pakistan tour, but their main players chose IPL and now they are out of the World Cup."

McClenaghan responded by highlighting that even New Zealand's second-string team had given Pakistan a tough challenge earlier in the year. He replied, "Very poor take. You lost games to our C side, Ireland, and the USA."

During a five-match T20I series against Pakistan, led by Michael Bracewell, New Zealand's second-string team managed a 2-2 result.

With many of the Kiwi stars participating in the IPL, several Kiwis got the chance to play in this series. The first match was abandoned due to rain, but New Zealand bounced back from a 0-1 deficit to lead the series 2-1. Pakistan narrowly won the final game to level the series.
