Yograj criticized Kapil Dev, saying his single World Cup win is overshadowed by Yuvraj Singh's 13 major trophies
Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh's father, Yograj Singh, has ignited a fresh controversy by launching a scathing attack on India's 1983 World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev.
In a recent interview with a local Indian channel, Yograj expressed his frustration towards Kapil Dev, asserting that Dev's solitary World Cup victory pales in comparison to Yuvraj Singh's impressive tally of 13 major trophies.
“The greatest captain of our time, Kapil Dev... I told him, I'll leave you in a position where the world would curse you. Today, Yuvraj Singh has 13 trophies, and you have only one, the World Cup. End of discussion,” Yograj said.
The 66-year-old’s comments have stirred up a storm, especially given his history of making controversial statements about other cricketing legends.
Previously, Yograj had openly criticized MS Dhoni, another World Cup-winning captain, accusing him of sabotaging Yuvraj Singh's career. Yograj's grievances against Dhoni were marked by his strong words.
“I won’t forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at his face in the mirror. He is a very big cricketer, but what he has done against my son, everything is coming out now; it can never be forgiven in life. I have never done two things in life—first, I have never forgiven anybody who has done wrong for me, and second, I have never hugged them in my life, be it my family members or my kids,” Yograj had said.
Yograj Singh, who played 1 Test and 6 T20Is for India as a fast bowler, has always been a vocal figure in Indian cricket. His son Yuvraj Singh, who played a pivotal role in India's 2011 ODI World Cup victory, was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances with both bat and ball.
