Abbas expressed his joy when Asian teams perform well on the international stage
Legendary Pakistani batter Zaheer Abbas has urged for the resumption of bilateral cricket relations between Pakistan and India.
Speaking at an event organized by his Indian friend V.K. Tripathi, the cricket great, also known as the "Asian Bradman," expressed his joy when Asian teams perform well on the international stage.
“We should play together. India and Pakistan must compete against each other,” Zaheer Abbas stated.
V.K. Tripathi, a retired IRS officer, Urdu poet, and member of the Indian Cricket Club, also voiced his concerns regarding the lack of bilateral cricket between the two nations. Referring to India’s decision not to tour Pakistan during a recent ICC event, he questioned the necessity of playing at neutral venues.
“Why should both teams go to neutral venues? Let’s talk positively. We should play in each other’s countries,” he emphasized.
Tripathi further highlighted how a large number of Indian fans traveled to Pakistan during the World Cup and believed it could happen again. “Matches should resume, and every team should tour the other’s country. I don’t understand why this isn’t happening,” he said.
He added that both nations are neighbors with a shared love for cricket. “In my opinion, they should play against each other.”
Several former Indian cricketers from Zaheer Abbas’ era also attended the event.
