Zahid Mehmood joins Islamabad United as Shadab's backup

Leg-spinner Zahid Mehmood has joined the Islamabad United squad to provide depth to the franchise.

With Shadab Khan missing the next game due to a groin injury, Zahid has been included in the squad.

Zahid, who was supposed to join the training camp for the series against Australia will wear the United colors.

Shadab picked up the injury during the game against Karachi Kings where he left the field without bowling a single ball.

It is worth pointing out that Zahid will act as Shadab's backup and not replacement as the United skipper is likely to be fit in a couple of days. Until he regains fitness, Zahid will act as his like-for-like backup.

In Shadab's absence, vice-captain Asif Ali will lead the United side as they look to secure a playoff position.
