Amir likely to get the nod for South Africa Tests

Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir is likely to make a comeback in the Test side during the upcoming tour of South Africa.

According to Daily Express, the national selection committee is thinking about including Amir in the side in place of off-spinner Bilal Asif. The former has been on the sidelines since Pakistan’s disastrous Asia Cup 2018 campaign — where he was uninspiring with the ball in hand.

The report further stated that left-handed batsman Shan Masood can secure a spot in the squad as the third opener — especially bearing in mind Fakhar Zaman’s knee injury.

The decision regarding inclusion of fast-bowler Mohammad Abbas in the squad will be taken after assessing his fitness, although, the selection committee is confident that he will recover in time for the series.

Pakistan might also call up wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan as backup for captain Sarfraz Ahmed.

Pakistan will play three Tests, five ODIs and three T20I matches during the tour of South Africa — with the first Test beginning in Centurion on December 26.
