Rashid, Naib lead Afghanistan to victory over Bangladesh

Afghanistan have registered their second consecutive victory at the ongoing Asia Cup with a comprehensive 136-run win over Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi.

Chasing a target of 256 runs, Bangladesh were bundled out for just 119 runs in 42.1 overs.

Bangladesh never got going during their run chase as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.

Earlier Rashid Khan was in no mood of messing around on his 20th birthday as he notched up a brilliant half-century, which powered Afghanistan to a competitive total.

Rashid combined with Gulbadin Naib to form a 95-run eight-wicket stand at a crucial stage - with the score at 160/7 - during the team's batting effort.

Rashid and Naib remained unbeaten on 57 and 42 runs respectively.

Naib and Rashid came up with the goods in the bowling department as well. They both picked up two wickets each.

Hashmatullah Shahidi was the top run scorer in the Afghanistan innings with a cautious knock of 58 runs off 92 balls.

Shakibal Hasan picked up four wickets while debutant Abu Hider snapped up two wickets. Shakib was also Bangladesh’s highest run scorer with the bat — scoring 32 runs off 55 balls.

Afghanistan will now face Pakistan at the same venue while Bangladesh will take on India in Dubai on September 21, in their respective Super Four matches.
