Babar Azam upbeat ahead of first Zimbabwe Test, plays down changes

Pakistan captain Babar Azam is upbeat ahead of the first Test against Zimbabwe, starting from Thursday in Harare.

While speaking in a virtual press conference on Wednesday, Babar is confident of a strong showing from his team, which he believes is perfectly balanced.

“We have experience in the shape of Azhar Ali and Fawad Alam. Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali are part of the pace-attack. So our team combination is pretty good. We will try to give our best in the Test series,” Babar said.

“We are hoping to play with the winning combination [home series win against South Africa] and carry the momentum from the previous series. If required, we will make the necessary changes after having a look at the pitch and conditions,” he added.

Pakistan captain has thrown his weight behind struggling openers, Abid Ali and Imran Butt, who failed to impress in the home series against South Africa.

“Imran has played only two Tests while Abid has performed in the past and has experience. If any player is going through a rough patch, he needs to be backed. We will look to back them as much we can,” he concluded.
