Pakistan women’s team suffered a surprising defeat against Bangladesh by seven wickets in their second fixture of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Women’s Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
After a disastrous outing in their first match against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh produced a much better performance against Pakistan.
Asked to bat first, Pakistan were restricted to 95-5 in their allotted 20 overs with Sana Mir finishing with the top score of 21 not out off 23 balls with the help of two fours.
Middle-order batsman Javeria Khan consumed 27 deliveries for 18 runs and unbeaten Nida Dar scored 17 off 18 balls. Nahida Khan and skipper Bismah Maroof could only muster 13 and 11 runs respectively.
For Bangladesh, Nahida Akter finished with figures of 2-23, while Rumana Ahmed, Fahima Khatun and Salma Khatun claimed one wicket each.
Chasing just 96 to win, Bangladesh reached the target in 17.5 overs for the loss of three wickets, courtesy brilliant batting performance from opener Shamima Sultana and Nigar Sultana, who scored 31, 31 (not out) off 33 and 35 balls respectively.
For Pakistan, Anum Amin, Nashra Sandhu and Nida Dar claimed one wicket each. The defeat pushed Pakistan to third place on the points table behind India and Sri Lanka.
Pakistan started the tournament on a high after beating Thailand by eight wickets on Sunday. Their next match will be against Sri Lankan on June 6.
