Banned cricketer takes part in domestic cricket

Earlier this year in April, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) banned Civil Aviation wicketkeeper-batsman Gauhar Ali for two years.

PCB took this action after Pakistan Navy filed a complaint against Ali for representing Civil Aviation in Patrons Trophy Grade 2 tournament, despite being a permanent employee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police.

As a result of the ban, Ali was ineligible to take part in domestic cricket till April 2021. Civil Aviation was also fined PKR 100,000 for going against the rules and picking Ali in their team.

Despite being banned, Ali has played four matches for KP in the ongoing National T20 Cup for second XIs in Karachi. Ali was also part of KP’s team in the Quaid-e-Azam (QeA) Trophy second XI match against Southern Punjab on September 26.

After being contacted, the PCB representative clarified that Ali had appealed against his ban, after which his ban was reduced to five months and he was allowed to play domestic cricket from September 25.

However, the PCB refrained from issuing any press release or communicating the reason for the reduction in Ali’s ban.
