HBL trounce SSGC by 166 runs in QeA One Day Cup quarter-final

Habib Bank Limited (HBL) defeated Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) by 166 runs in the second quarter-final of Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup in Lahore.

HBL posted 320-8 in their allotted fifty overs after Sui Southern Gas Corporation won the toss and elected to field first.

Opener and wicketkeeper-batsman Jamal Anwar smacked a brilliant century (119) to help his side post a massive total on the board. His innings included 14 fours and two sixes.

Middle-order batsmen Umar Akmal and Rameez Aziz also chipped in with decent contributions of 56 and 40 runs respectively. Meanwhile all-rounder Zohaib Khan played a brisk innings of 30 runs from just 13 balls to provide a strong end to HBL’s batting effort.

For SSGC, seamer Sohail Khan claimed three wickets but was expensive as he went for 76 runs in his full quota of 10 overs. Left-arm pacers Mohammad Amir and Ziaul Haq bagged two wickets each.

Chasing a daunting target of 321 runs, SSGC were never in the hunt as the entire side was dismissed for just 154 runs in 34 overs. Left-handed batsman Fawad Alam was the only standout performer with the bat — he scored 59 runs from 60 balls.

For HBL, Amad Butt claimed four wickets for 42 runs while spin duo of Abdur Rehman and Agha Salman grabbed three and two wickets respectively.

It must be noted that in the first quarter-final Water and Power Development Authority defeated National Bank of Pakistan by eight wickets.

The third quarter-final will be played between Khan Research Laboratories and Multan on Monday while in the fourth quarter-final Pakistan Television will face Islamabad on Tuesday.
