Misbah-ul-Haq heaps praise on Shoaib Malik

Former Pakistan captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, recently shared his thoughts on the performance of Karachi Kings veteran all-rounder, Shoaib Malik, in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8.

During an interview with a local news channel, Misbah praised Malik's consistent performance over the past year and a half, both in franchise cricket and in international matches for Pakistan.

"Be it franchise cricket or the last time he played for Pakistan, Malik has performed during the last one and a half years," said Misbah.

"I am surprised to see that he has failed to cash his form in this PSL season. Although he has started playing according to modern-day cricket and can accelerate with a strike rate of 140-150, he hasn't performed much in this edition," he added.

"I think he has remained unlucky because, if you see, he started off well with two fifties. But then, whenever he got in, Karachi needed runs at a run rate of over 10. I think that is the reason why he always remained under pressure," he said.

Despite Malik's recent good form, the 48-year-old expressed surprise that he has failed to perform to his full potential in the current edition of the PSL.

According to Misbah, the 41-year-old has adapted well to the modern-day game and has the ability to score quickly with a strike rate of 140-150.

However, he believes that Malik has been unlucky this season, as he has often come in to bat when his team, Karachi, needed to score at a high run rate, putting him under pressure.

Despite these challenges, the right-hand batsman still scored 200 runs in nine matches, including two fifties.

"Everyone is their own judge. It depends on him whether he wants to play or takes retirement. I feel he is fit and committed to his game. If he thinks so, he can go and play franchise cricket," he concluded

In conclusion, Misbah's assessment of Malik's performance in the PSL season 8 is that he has been unlucky rather than out of form.
