Opener Nasir Jamshed has filed his response against corruption charges leveled at him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for his part in the spot-fixing scandal which rocked the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Jamshed’s lawyer Hasan Waraich submitted the answer to the anti-corruption tribunal in a hearing at the National Cricket Academy on Friday. The case was later postponed till May 22 for further proceedings.
Speaking to media after the hearing, Waraich was adamant that PCB had no solid evidence to support their case against the left-hander.
“I have been saying this since the last year that PCB’s has nothing new to add to this case and the same old narrative is repeated time and again” said Waraich. “The tribunal does not have an adequate response to my questions nor evidence to build a strong case.”
Jamshed was accused of playing a facilitating role in the spot-fixing scandal during 2017 PSL and since then has been banned from playing all forms of cricket for Pakistan for a period of one year.
Following that scandal, three Islamabad United player — Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif and Mohammad Irfan and one Karachi Kings player Shahzaib Hasan have received bans for their part in the scandal.
