Saqlain, Waqar among options to replace Misbah as head coach for NZ ODIs

Saqlain Mushtaq, Head of International Player Development at the National High Performance Centre, and national team’s Bowling Coach Waqar Younis are among the options to replace Head Coach Misbahul Haq in his role for the upcoming New Zealand One-day International (ODI) series.

It is still not confirmed if Misbah can take part in the upcoming series after the head coach tested positive for Covid-19 and went through a quarantine period in Jamaica.

It is currently being discussed whether Misbah will take charge of the team as head coach during the series against New Zealand or if someone else will step in temporarily.

Misbah is expected to return to Pakistan, after recovering from Covid-19, on Sunday after a grueling tour that stretched for two months along with 10 additional days of quarantining in Jamaica.

Upon arrival Misbah is expected to meet with PCB officials to discuss whether he is ready to enter the bio-bubble from September 8 or if he would prefer to rest.

Sources added that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials are also unhappy with Misbah’s defensive strategies and are on the lookout for a new head coach for white-ball cricket.

Additionally, there has been one change to the team management for the upcoming home series. According to sources, security officer Colonel (Retired) Muqaram has been replaced by Colonel (Retired) Imran Dar.
