Streets named after Pakistan cricketers in Melbourne

Streets of an upcoming housing estate in Melbourne have been named after cricketers, including Pakistan’s legendary cricketers Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Inzamamul Haq, Javed Miandad and Shoaib Akhtar. The streets are located in the Rockbank Suburb of Melton City Council.

Property Developer Varun Sharma, while talking to SBS Hindi, revealed that inquiries doubled after the move.

“As soon as we announced street names after cricketers, the inquiries doubled,” Mr Sharma told SBS Hindi.

The streets covered an array of legendary cricketers with names such as Akram Way, Hadlee Street, Tendulkar Drive, Akhtar Avenue, Inzamam Street, Kohli Crescent, Sobers Drive and Dev Terrace.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Lara Carli was happy with the overwhelming response to the initiative.

“Street names in our City are usually submitted by developers and approved by Council if they meet Office of Geographic Names guidelines.

“It seems these cricket-themed names are already popular with cricket fans in our community and beyond.

“It’s great to see a positive response to these names, and it’s something I’m sure the developer and surrounding residents can be proud of.”
