Usman Khawaja calls for resumption of Indo-Pak bilateral series

The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry remains as one of the most intense rivalries in the entire world. Both countries have had a long history with often deterioating political ties which has heated things even further.

Despite having such a tremendous rivalry, both nations have not played a bilaterial series since 2012. Before that, the last tour was in 2007 when Pakistan toured to India.

In 2014, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that they did reach an agreement with the BCCI to play 6 bilateral series spanning over next 8 years. However, BCCI refused to honour the agreement citing reasons that they did not get an approval from the Indian goverment.

Australian cricketing star, Usman Khawaja, recently spoke about the matter on YouTube and claimed that he misses the India-Pakistan contest the most in international cricket.

"The thing I miss most about international cricket are India versus Pakistan matches. I hate that it doesn’t happen anymore. It’s the biggest thing that cricket is missing & it will be amazing if we can get those two countries to play again," he said.

Pakistan's record against India in bilateral series remains commmendable; the Men in Green have won more Test matches and ODIs compared to their fierce rivals. However, their performances in ICC tournaments remain abysmal with India winning 13 out of the 17 matches played on the grand stage.

Pakistan will look to overturn the misfortunes on the big stage when they face-off against India in the upcoming 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.
