Wasim Akram provides input on who PCB should hire as power-hitting coach

Legendary left-arm pacer Wasim Akram has backed Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) decision to hire a power-hitting coach for the national team.

"Power-hitting coaches are important because you need a specific balance than what you would have while batting normally. Power hitting in cricket is much like a golf shot where you need to have the right balance," said Akram while talking to media in Karachi.

The former Pakistan captain hinted that PCB should snub the idea of hiring a local coach for this role and opt for someone with the right knowledge, someone from abroad.

"This is a great idea and everyone is benefiting from power-hitting coaching. One coach is of from England whereas the other is an American who has trained several teams," hinted Wasim Akram.

The 55-year-old commented on Pakistan's recent performances and said that they have been praiseworthy and that Saqlain Mushtaq's coaching had certainly impressed him.

"Saqlain has done a great job as the interim coach and Pakistan did fantastic under him, and T20 World Cup is a great example of it," said Wasim.

Akram later expressed his delight with PCB's progress and the idea of importing drop-in pitches to improve the standards of overall cricket in Pakistan.

"Pakistan cricket is moving in the right direction and these projects and new ideas need to be implemented so the cricket can grow even further," said Wasim while talking to media in Karachi.

He further reiterated that with Australia's imminent tour to Pakistan, the PCB must do everything in their power to ensure a safe environment for the players due to the pandemic.

"Covid-19 is rapidly spreading all over the world once again and extreme caution needs to be exercised. PCB needs to make sure that Australia's tour to Pakistan remains on and is not halted or delayed due to lack of preparation in regards to Covid-19," said Wasim.
