South Africa and Afghanistan are set to play their first bilateral series, featuring a three-match ODI series scheduled in Sharjah from September 18 to 22.
The series, hosted by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and announced by Cricket South Africa (CSA), was not part of the original Future Tours Programme (FTP).
The series will conclude just five days before South Africa's scheduled matches against Ireland in Abu Dhabi, which include two T20Is and three ODIs starting September 27.
Prior to this, South Africa will be engaged in two Tests and three T20Is against the West Indies in the Caribbean, beginning on August 7.
For Afghanistan, the series provides an opportunity to showcase their skills against a Test-playing nation, coming shortly after their historic Test match against New Zealand in Greater Noida, India, from September 9 to 13.
