Veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi, in a public event in Lahore on Wednesday, opened about the recently-announced Pakistan squad for the upcoming Africa tour.

Recent media reports have claimed that Pakistan captain Babar Azam was unhappy with the squad selected by Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim for the upcoming Africa tour and shared his grievances with PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan.

“Babar Azam will lead the team in the middle and will be responsible for the team’s performance. Hence, his suggestions should hold more value during squad selection,” said Afridi.

“There can be difference of opinion between the chief selector and captain, but such things should remain behind closed doors and not come out in the media,” he added.

Afridi also advised the selection committee to given chances to players who have a proved track record in domestic cricket.

“Experienced players should be given preference overs players who have just performed in one or two games. An experienced cricketer is more likely to succeed when given an opportunity at international level,” he said.
