Ahmad Shahzad receives support from Basit Ali for PSL 8 snub

Former Pakistan Test cricketer, Basit Ali, has expressed his support for Pakistan's opening batter, Ahmed Shahzad, who was not picked by any franchise team for the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 season. 

Ali took to Twitter to criticize the decision made by Quetta Gladiators, who did not include Ahmad in their team, despite his impressive track record.

The 31-year-old has played 45 PSL matches from 2016 to 2020, scoring 1077 runs. However, despite being fit and available for the ongoing PSL season, Ahmad was not picked by any franchise, including the replacement draft.

Ahmad's fans have been expressing their disappointment on social media, with the cricketer responding to their messages with encouragement and patience.

"I am what I am because of my fans. Thank you for always believing in me. From this video an advice I would like to give to my fans & also remind myself to. 'SABR,'" he responded to a video shared by a fan. 

In a recent post, Ahmad reminded himself and his fans to have patience and perseverance.

Before the draft for PSL 8 in December, the right-hand batsman had expressed his confidence in getting picked up by one of the franchises and was most likely to be picked up by Gladiators. 

"I am in talks with a couple of franchises. As a player, I can't force anyone to pick me, but if a player brings value to the team, they should go for him," shared the cricketer. "See, PSL is Pakistan's biggest brand, and every player wants to play in it. In fact, PSL's performance matters a lot, and it is very important for players to make a comeback," he added.

However, sources later revealed that Gladiators' head coach Moin Khan did not favor Ahmad's selection.
