Pakistan’s former pacer Shoaib Akhtar took a dig at the appointment of ex-Pakistan captain Misbahul Haq as the new head coach and chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team on Twitter.

The fast-bowler poked fun at the appointment in a tweet that suggested the former captain could be on his way to becoming the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman as well.

“Congratulations to Misbahul Haq for the new 'dual' role of Head Coach as well as Chief Selector for Pakistan Cricket Team. I am surprised he is not appointed the Chairman PCB as well along with it,” Akhtar tweeted.

The fast-bowler however clarified that it was a joke and wished the new head coach and chief selector good luck.

“I am just kidding. I really hope he does wonders like before,” he added.

The tweet comes in the backdrop of the appointment of Misbahul Haq as the head coach and chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team by the PCB on Wednesday.

Misbah is set to replace former head coach Mickey Arthur, who was removed after the suggestions of the cricket committee. It must be noted that Misbah was a part of the same committee at that time.

The former captain was confirmed as Pakistan men’s national team head coach in all three formats on a three-year contract.

The 45-year-old was a unanimous choice of a five-member panel that comprised Intikhab Alam (former captain and the longest serving Pakistan team manager and coach), Bazid Khan (former international cricketer and one of the most respected commentators), Asad Ali Khan (member, Board of Governors), Wasim Khan (Chief Executive, PCB) and Zakir Khan (Director – International Cricket, PCB) following a robust recruitment process.
