"Pakistan needs to stop experimenting and take this defeat seriously. Blunders and foolish decisions won't lead us to victory, and it's time for the team management to re-evaluate their strategy," he said.
The 41-year-old specifically pointed out Iftikhar Ahmed's batting position and performance, stating that "Iftikhar won't bat like this every day - he has got a permanent number and position - send him on that."
New Zealand played excellent cricket in the match, and Akmal acknowledged their well-deserved victory.
"If it was their main team, they might have won 3-0. Pakistan needs to reconsider their decisions and stop frequently changing the batsmen's positions. Iftikhar won't save you in every match," he concluded.
The Blackcaps, after winning the toss, decided to bat first and scored 163 runs after losing five wickets. Skipper Tom Latham, was leading from the front as he scored 49-ball 60 runs including seven fours and two sixes. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf picked up two wickets in their spell alongside Shadab Khan who claimed one wicket.
