Australian spin-bowling all-rounder Ashton Agar was the subject of a fake death threat after landing in Pakistan for the all-format series.

According to details, Cricket Australia (CA), Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and government security agencies have investigated a death threat sent to Agar's partner, Madeleine, on social media, possibly from India, warning that the cricketer should not travel to Pakistan.

CA has confirmed in a statement that a social media post was sent. The governing body says the threat is “not a risk”.

PCB also gave an update, saying that the social media post has been investigated and it doesn't consider a risk

“Cricket Australia is aware of a social media post, of which the nature and content have been investigated by the PCB, CA and combined Government security agencies."

“There are extensive security plans in place for this type of social media activity, which, in this case, is not considered a risk. No further comment will be made at this time.”

Meanwhile, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age revealed the message received by Agar's partner on Instagram which read as: “This is a warning for your husband Ashton Agar if he comes to tour against Pakistan he won’t come [back] alive.” The message also references Agar’s children, which he does not have.

It must be noted that the Australian squad is in Pakistan for three-match Test series, as many ODIs and a T20I from March 4 to April 5.

They will start training at the Pindi Cricket Stadium from tomorrow.
