Pakistan were given the hosting rights in December last year
The next edition of Asia Cup will take place in Pakistan in September, 2020.
The tournament will be played in the T20 format as it is set to precede the 2020 International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup in October.
Pakistan was awarded the hosting rights for the tournament last year in December by Asian Cricket Council President Nazmul Hassan Papon.
“The next Asia Cup will be hosted by Pakistan, and the hosting right belongs to them,” said Papon.
The decision casts serious doubts on the participation of defending champions India in the tournament.
It was also decided in the meeting that the event will be shifted to another venue if Indo-Pak diplomatic ties do not improve.
The ACC also reaffirmed its stand to include cricket in the 2022 Asian Games scheduled in Hangzhou, China.
A decision in this regard was made when the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) included cricket in the sports programme. The decision was taken at the OCA's General Assembly in Bangkok in March last year.
