Australia may hand Test debut to Mitchell Swepson in Karachi Test

Australia is pondering to field two spinners in the second Test at Karachi's National Stadium and it is highly likely that leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson will be handed Test cap on March 12.

The first Test of Benaud-Qadir trophy ended in a draw where only 14 wickets across five days. Australia picked their go-to off-spinner Nathan Lyon while skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Cameron Green were the four-pace bowling option.

Cummins also hinted in a post-match presser yesterday that they were already strongly considering playing two frontline spinners in the final two Tests of the series.

Australia are expecting Karachi to be different, with Rawalpindi previously identified as the one pace-friendly pitch.

"It may have been may have been helpful here (in Rawalpindi) but I don't think it would have made too much of a difference.

"We were expecting more up-and-down bounce and reverse swing (that didn't come)."

Cummins refrained from telly whether Swepson will play in Karachi or not but indicated it would be the case.

"It is an asset for sure having a wrist spinner. It's something a bit different. And Sweppo has been bowling beautifully.

"We'll get to Karachi and have a look. But absolutely Sweppo as a wrist spinner is a huge chance if we play two."

If the 28-year-old play, one from Hazlewood and Starc would have to sit.
