The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday announced the appointment of Babar Azam as the new captain for white-ball cricket.

His father, Azam Siddiqui, has advised him to show respect towards Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, who have recently returned from retirement to represent Pakistan in the lead-up to the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The reappointment of Babar Azam raises questions about the dynamic between him and Imad, Amir, who have previously criticized Babar's captaincy and batting in T20Is on national television.

Taking to his official Instagram account, Azam Siddiqui emphasized the importance of acknowledging the authority's decision and urged Babar to let go of past grievances. He advised his son to approach Amir and Imad with respect and honor their perspectives, considering their seniority and experience.

"The most important thing is that the people of the authority gave honour and respect again," Siddiqui wrote.

"Now they are echoes that the team will not be united but I have said to Babar to forget the past. Amir and Imad are older than and senior to you, meet them with respect and honour their opinion," he added.

With Babar's reinstatement, his first task as captain will be leading Pakistan in the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand at home, starting from April 18.
