Babar Azam, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, has etched his name in T20 cricket history by becoming the fastest batsman to reach 10,000 runs.

The Peshawar Zalmi skipper reached the milestone during his knock against Karachi Kings on Wednesday at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Babar accomplished this feat in just 271 innings, surpassing the previous record held by West Indian cricket legend Chris Gayle, who took 285 innings to reach the 10,000-run mark. Following closely is Virat Kohli, who achieved this milestone in 299 innings.

The Peshawar Zalmi skipper joins an elite group of 12 batters who had previously reached the 10,000-run milestone in T20 cricket. This list includes cricketing stalwarts such as Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales, David Warner, Virat Kohli, Aaron Finch, Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, Colin Munro, James Vince, and David Miller.

In Zalmi's first game this season against Gladiators on Sunday, Babar also made history by becoming the first batsman to accumulate 3,000 runs in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). This achievement places him above any other player who has yet to cross the 2,500-run mark in the league.

Prior to his stint with Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL, Babar showcased his batting prowess with the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He left the BPL as the leading run-scorer, a position later assumed by Durdanto Dhaka’s Mohammad Naim Sheikh. In his nine matches with the Rangpur Riders, Babar amassed 251 runs at an impressive average of 50.2 and a strike rate of 114.61. His innings included two half-centuries, and he recorded a top score of 62.
