Pakistan's star cricketers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are reportedly set to face a major shake-up in their central contracts with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

After Pakistan’s early exit from the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024, sources indicate that both players might be demoted from their current Category A contracts, as reported by a local news channel.

Sources close to the PCB have revealed that significant changes are underway regarding the central contracts for the national players. A new, smaller selection committee will be tasked with finalizing these contracts, although the salaries for the players are expected to remain the same despite the potential demotions.

Pakistan's campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 ended on a disappointing note, as they failed to advance beyond the league stage. The team faced a surprising defeat to the United States and also lost to arch-rivals India, in a match that initially seemed to be in Pakistan's favor. These setbacks ultimately thwarted their progress to the Super 8 round, marking a significant blow to their aspirations in the tournament.

The possible demotion of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan from Category A contracts highlights the significant changes and introspection within the PCB following the team's underwhelming World Cup performance. The restructuring of central contracts and the focus on revamping the team composition suggest that the PCB is taking a proactive approach to improve the national team's future prospects.
