Babar Azam vows to continue winning momentum in Bangladesh series

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has vowed to continue T20 World Cup winning momentum in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh.

The 27-year-old also announced the 12-member squad for the first T20I, scheduled tomorrow at Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium.

Babar opined that Bangladesh is a competitive side in home conditions, therefore, they have picked a balanced squad.

"We want to continue the winning momentum and after this series, there are also matches against West Indies. We don't want to take Bangladesh easy. We will test our bench strength too in the next matches," Babar said in a pre-series virtual presser.

Babar further said that they are not looking far ahead at the 2022 T20 World Cup and want to do well in every series.

"Not thinking of the next World Cup, we will discuss with the selectors and work out a plan of action. Right now, the focus is on the Bangladesh series, If we win every series, the quality of performance will also get higher," he added.

Meanwhile, Babar revealed that the semi-final loss to Australia was disheartening but the confidence of the players is sky-high.

"The whole team was saddened by the semi-final defeat. They discussed their mistakes in the dressing room and decided to improve. They trusted each other and tried not to let this momentum break," he maintained.

"We have clarified roles to every player and what kind of performance is needed from them. When the mind of the player is clear, everything goes smoothly," he added.

Babar also talked about his batting and said that he always evaluate his performance.

"I don't think that I am perfect and there is always a need for improvement. I analyse everything and try to correct them as it will benefit me. Every match is a new challenge, the process of learning never ends," he added.

Babar is not bothered by not having Pakistani fans in the stadium as the Bangladesh crowd will support both sides in the stadium.

"Fans are cheering and waving hands every time we go for our practice sessions. We will also be having support, the presence of spectators in the stadium is welcome after the ease of Covid-19 restrictions," he added.
