The ongoing IPL 2024 has seen a flurry of high-scoring matches, repeatedly shattering the record for the highest-ever total. Some suggest this trend might carry over into the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

However, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has a different perspective, asserting that the IPL and international cricket should not be equated.

Shanto pointed to the example of the PSL 2023, where numerous matches saw scores surpassing 200 runs. Yet, he contends that achieving such high scores is not as common in international cricket.

"You can't compare IPL with international cricket at all, I think even in last year's PSL [Pakistan Super League], scores over 200 and even in excess of 250 were scored. But from my understanding, if a team makes over 160, around 175-180 or 200, that's a very good score in international cricket. You don't see such scores too often,” Shanto was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

Shanto further elaborated on his viewpoint, emphasizing that teams are likely to score between 160 and 180 runs on good wickets during the World Cup.

"I think, we will see similar scores in the World Cup, the scores will be around 160-180 on good wickets. The bowlers will have to defend those scores or teams would have to chase it. I don't think a comparison with the IPL is logical in any way," he said.
