Multiple IPL franchises have voiced concerns over certain foreign players showing a lack of commitment and respect for their contracts by pulling out of the tournament at the eleventh hour
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is poised to take action against foreign players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) who withdraw at the last minute, causing disruptions for the franchises.
According to the media reports, multiple IPL franchises have voiced concerns over certain foreign players showing a lack of commitment and respect for their contracts by pulling out of the tournament at the eleventh hour.
Players like Jason Roy, Alex Hales, and Wanindu Hasaranga have been cited as examples, with their withdrawals often attributed to receiving lower bids during the auction. Their reasons for pulling out, ranging from personal issues to injuries, have left the franchises dissatisfied.
"The actions of players such as Jason Roy, Alex Hales, and Wanindu Hasaranga, to name a few, who have withdrawn from the IPL on various occasions in the past - ostensibly because of receiving a low bid - have raised concerns of the IPL management. None-too-convincing reasons for their withdrawals have ranged from personal issues to injuries, leaving franchises less than pleased," a Cricbuzz report read.
A crucial meeting between the BCCI and the IPL franchise CEOs is scheduled for Wednesday, July 31. This meeting is expected to address these issues seriously, especially with the upcoming mega auction on the horizon.
Unlike previous meetings, this one will focus on ensuring player commitment and addressing the franchises' concerns comprehensively.
