India’s cricket team has returned to a hero’s welcome in New Delhi after their triumphant victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. The squad, led by captain Rohit Sharma, landed with the trophy after a challenging journey home from the Caribbean, where they clinched the title.

The team’s return was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl, a powerful category four storm that hit Barbados, causing significant travel disruptions. Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown was shut down for three days, grounding all flights and leaving the team stranded.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized a special flight for the team, support staff, and their families. This flight was one of the first to take off once the airport reopened. Departing on July 2, the team finally arrived in India early on July 4, local time. BCCI officials and media personnel covering the tournament were also on board.

India’s victory in the T20 World Cup ended a 13-year drought in global cricket tournaments. They secured their win with a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the final match. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was awarded Player of the Tournament for his exceptional performances throughout the competition.

The team’s arrival in New Delhi was met with celebrations and applause from fans who had gathered to welcome their champions home.
