England will next face Namibia on May 14, aiming to maintain their winning momentum
England secured a commanding eight-wicket victory over Oman in a must-win T20 World Cup 2024 match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on June 13.
The defending champions chased down a modest target of 48 runs in just 3.1 overs, clinching their first win of the tournament.
Opening the chase, Phil Salt made an explosive start by hitting two sixes off the first two balls bowled by Bilal Khan. However, his aggressive approach led to his dismissal on the third ball as he attempted to accelerate further. Will Jacks also fell cheaply for 5 runs, failing to sustain the momentum and getting out to Kaleemullah.
Skipper Jos Buttler then took charge, scoring 22 runs in a single over and remaining unbeaten on a quickfire 24 off just eight balls, ensuring England's swift victory.
Earlier in the match, Buttler opted to field first after winning the toss, a decision that proved effective as England bowled Oman out for a paltry 47 runs. Shoaib Khan was the only Omani batter to reach double figures, scoring 11 off 23 balls.
England's bowling attack was led by Adil Rashid, who took four wickets for just 11 runs. Mark Wood and Jofra Archer both contributed significantly, each securing three wickets for 12 runs.
This emphatic win helped England surpass Scotland in net run rate, a crucial factor in their quest for the Super 8 stage.
England will next face Namibia on May 14, aiming to maintain their winning momentum. To qualify for the Super 8, they will need Scotland to lose to Australia, as both teams will have five points, but England's superior net run rate will ensure their progression.
