Pakistan’s prolific Test batsman Fawad Alam, in an interview with Cricket Pakistan, gave a befitting reply to his critics-turned-fans stating that he will continue to be thankful to Allah Almighty and follow the straight path.

The 35-year-old emphasised that his job was to play cricket and perform for his team, while responding to a question about how he felt when he is praised by people who were responsible for keeping him out of the national side for more than a decade.

“My job is to play cricket. If I start enjoying things that other people say or do, then my cricket will stop there. I am just thankful to Allah and nothing else. Everything is according to the will of Allah, and we have no power over anything. I just try to follow a straight path. Things happen in everyone’s career. Everyone has ups and downs. If you keep on the right path, then good things happen. If people are praising me then it is an honor for me,” Alam said.

The prolific Test batsman also believed that the last 10 or 11 years of his life were really fruitful because of all the achievements he was able to rack up in domestic cricket.

“Being a Muslim, you should be thankful to Allah in all circumstances. If you take domestic cricket for the last 10 or 11 years, I am in the top 20 in the world. I think Allah has given me a lot, I have so many centuries and runs at such a high average in domestic cricket. I have so many records in domestic cricket. I am on second after Hanif Mohammad in most statistics. How can I say that the last 10 to 11 years of my life were wasted? Allah has given me so many records during this time and I should be grateful for that,” he said.

“Maybe if I was in the national side in the past, I might not have achieved everything I eventually did. Whatever Allah does for someone is good. We also pray to Allah to give us thing that are good for us and I think this was really good for me,” he concluded.
