Pakistan’s batsman Fawad Alam and all-rounder Faheem Ashraf reacted after their crucial partnership in the first Test against West Indies that helped their side manage 217 runs in the first innings.
The two batsmen came together as Pakistan found itself in significant trouble with a scoreline of 101 runs for the loss of five wickets.
The duo combined for a vital 85-run partnership with Fawad scoring 56 runs off 117 balls while Faheem scored 44 runs from 66 balls.
Fawad Alam revealed that he knew that one good partnership could put their side in a good position in the match.
“The first day of a Test match is very important. Now, we will try to apply more pressure on West Indies on day two. We will get wickets if they are under pressure. We will try to get them out as soon as we can. I came out with positive intent so that we could stay in the middle for longer. I knew that if I stayed in the middle, the runs would come. I knew that one good partnership will get us to a better position,” Alam said.

Faheem Ashraf, on the other hand, vowed to replicate a similarly effective performance with the ball.
“Batting on this pitch for a long period was not easy. I was only thinking about taking our side out of trouble. A batsman has to play with more focus on this kind of a pitch. We were just thinking about making a partnership. I contributed with the bat and will try to do the same with the ball. Our bowling is really good,” Faheem said.
