Former cricketers have heaped praise on fast-bowler Mohammad Abbas after his devastating 5-33 spell wrecked Australia during the first innings of the second Test in Abu Dhabi.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan, on his official Twitter account, said that he is convinced that Abbas will dismiss him once every six balls after watching him over the past year.

“Having watched Mahammad Abbas now for over a year, I have decided he would get me out every time within about 6 balls," he wrote. "The type of bowler i would poop my pants about ... Thought I would let you all know ..."

Former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood also termed Abbas as unplayable in a tweet by saying: "Faced him last month with storm Ali up his backside....lasted 1 ball first innings and somehow survived the huge LBW shout 1st ball in the 2nd innings!! Had me on toast."

Former Pakistan coach Waqar Younis also appreciated Abbas for keeping things simple and getting the most out of a dead pitch at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

“Most admirable thing about Abbas’ bowling is his simple plans, he’s always ready for all kinds of challenges. Great spell of bowling on a dead pitch,” he tweeted.

Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar touted Abbas’ spell as the best he has ever seen.

“Wow what a comeback from green caps,” he said. “I must say Abbas is something else. Simply great medium fast bowling spell I have ever seen.”
