Sri Lanka clinched their first ODI series win against India since August 1997
The Indian cricket team faced a significant setback as they lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka, marking their first series win against India in 27 years.
The defeat has stirred reactions from cricket enthusiasts and former players, including former Pakistan pacer Tanvir Ahmed, who took to social media to express his thoughts.
Tanvir Ahmed took a swipe at the Indian team on the social media platform 'X'. He specifically targeted Gautam Gambhir, India's newly appointed white-ball coach, who had earlier led India to a T20I series victory but couldn't prevent the ODI series loss.
"Gift for India team losing the ODI series - Gautam Gambhir," Tanvir posted.
Sri Lanka's triumph was cemented with a commanding 110-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium.
The series ended 2-0 in favour of Sri Lanka. The first game ended in a tie, and the second game saw Sri Lanka secure a 32-run win, largely due to spinner Jeffrey Vandersay’s outstanding performance.
In the final match, Sri Lanka set a target of 249, but India faltered significantly, managing only 138 runs in 26.1 overs.
This defeat not only highlighted the team’s batting vulnerabilities but also marked a historic moment for Sri Lanka, as they clinched their first ODI series win against India since August 1997.
