"It is an honour for me to lead the franchise, and I'm excited about the new challenge," said Azam. "Peshawar Zalmi is one of the best teams of PSL and has done well consistently over the past few years."
Before the trade and retention window closed last month, the champions of the 2017 tournament, Peshawar Zalmi, accumulated Azam in the Platinum category and the first pick in the supplementary round for Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik, who will join Karachi Kings, the winners of the 2020 competition, in the Platinum and Diamond categories, respectively.
Babar Azam played for the Kings since 2017 after leaving Islamabad United. He is the all-time highest scorer of PSL, with 2413 runs under his belt in 68 matches.
Reminder for all is that the 2023 season is set to start on February 9 across four venues – Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan – with the final on March 19.
