Pakistan’s head coach-cum-chief selector Misbahul Haq, in a press conference on Monday, claimed that the upcoming edition of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL) was crucial to Pakistan’s chances in the upcoming  International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Australia later this year.

The 45-year-old claimed that Pakistan needed to play cricket according to modern standards while stressing the need for a good squad for the upcoming World Cup.

“T20 is very important in international cricket. It is very important for us to play cricket according to the modern standards. We want to make a great squad for the World Cup. The PSL is very important for the World Cup in this regard,” Misbah said.

Misbah, who will coach the Islamabad United franchise in the upcoming HBL PSL, congratulated the nation on the return of cricket while reminding fans of their franchise’s great track record.

“I would like to congratulate the entire nation for this event where we will see the entire PSL being played in Pakistan. The fans want cricket in the country. We are very excited about the league. Whoever wins, it will be great for the country,” he said. “The Islamabad United team has won the championship twice. The team this time around is a little different. We are very happy that we get to play five matches on our home ground of Rawalpindi.”
