I deserved the right to take Pakistan into T20 World Cup: Mickey Arthur

Former Pakistan Head Coach Mickey Arthur believes that he should have been given the opportunity to coach the Men in Green in the Twnety20 World Cup, later this year.

While speaking in a YouTube video, for Cricket Life Stories, Arthur said that he was disappointed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not renew his contract.

“I definitely felt I had more to give which is why I publically said that I was disappointed when they [PCB] did not renew my contract,” said Arthur. “I had built a young team and I certainly wanted another 18 months and that would have taken me to the Twenty20 World Cup, which would have been the end of my term with Pakistan.”

Under Arthur’s tutelage, Pakistan were phenomenal in the shortest format of the game through consistent performances.

“We started at number nine in T20 cricket but we got to number one position and won 11 series in a row. I feel I deserved the right to take the team to the T20 World Cup,” he added.

Arthur joined Pakistan in May 2016, leading them to a drawn Test series with England that lifted them to the top of the rankings.

Pakistan also won the Champions Trophy in England in June 2017, raising their stock in limited-overs cricket.
