India secured their spot in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024 with a convincing seven-wicket victory over the USA at New York's Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

This win makes India the third team, alongside South Africa and Australia, to qualify for the next round of the tournament.

In the initial phase of the match, India opted to field first after winning the toss. Their bowlers delivered an impressive performance, restricting the USA to a total of 110/8. Pacer Arshdeep Singh emerged as the standout performer for India, achieving remarkable figures of 4/9, a record for an Indian player in the history of the competition. He claimed the crucial wickets of Shayan Jahangir, Andries Gous, Nitish Kumar, and Harmeet Singh. Among the USA batters, Nitish Kumar was the top scorer with 27 runs off 23 balls, while opener Steven Taylor contributed 24 runs from 30 deliveries. Apart from Arshdeep, Hardik Pandya picked up 2 wickets for 14 runs, while Axar Patel managed figures of 1/25.

During the chase, India faced an early setback with pacer Saurabh Netravalkar dismissing both Virat Kohli (0) and Rohit Sharma (3) in the powerplay. However, a resilient partnership between Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the innings until Pant was bowled by Ali Khan for 18 runs. Despite the pressure, Yadav and Shivam Dube formed a crucial partnership that guided India to victory. Yadav remained unbeaten on a composed 50 off 49 balls, while Dube contributed 31 runs from 35 deliveries. India successfully completed the chase in 18.2 overs.
