Multan Sultans have been flying high with two straight wins in the first two matches and they will look to continue their dominance against Quetta Gladiators tonight who got back on their toes with win over Karachi Kings.
The teams are led by two of the best wicketkeepers of the country, Mohammad Rizwan and Sarfaraz Ahmed. Rizwan has outshined Sarfaraz in the last two years in international cricket but the PSL provides an opportunity for Sarfaraz to stand tall.
Both teams have been relying on openers as the stats suggest they have scored the bulk of runs. The team breaking the opening partnership can put pressure on the side and middle-order will be tested hugely in tonight's clash.
On the other hand, toss will once again play a huge role and the pattern also suggests that the team batting second is winning as the totals are being chased easily.
Last time, Gladiators broke this myth against Sultans in the 14th match of the competition and it would be interesting to see if they do this again this year.
Gladiators have also a slight edge in the overall head-to-head record as they have four wins out of seven against Sultans.
Sultans have been led brilliantly by Rizwan as they have won 9 matches out of the last 10 games. They secured wins over Karachi Kings by seven wickets while they chased down a big total of 206 against Lahore Qalandars.
On both occasions, their batting clicked while bowling faced havoc in the second match. The opening duo of Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood have been batting brilliantly. Masood blasted 83 runs off just 50 balls against Lahore Qalandars while Rizwan has scored back-to-back half-centuries.
Imran Tahir has been bowling great and has already taken four wickets but they are looking to attain performances from Shahnawaz Dahani and Imran Khan Sr, the two performers of last year.
Squad: Mohammad Rizwan, Rilee Rossouw, Sohaib Maqsood, Imran Tahir, Shan Masood, Khushdil Shah, Shahnawaz Dhani, Tim David, Rumman Raees, Asif Afridi, Anwar Ali, Imran Khan Sr., Abbas Afridi, Amir Azmat, Blessing Muzarabani, Ihsanullah, David Willey, Rizwan Hussain, Johnson Charles
Quetta Gladiators were defeated by Peshawar Zalmi in their opening match, failing to defend 190. However, they bounced back 24 hours later to cruise to an eight-wicket victory over Karachi Kings.
Naseem Shah bagged career-best figures of 5 for 20 as the Kings were dismissed for just 113 runs, a total the in-form Ahsan Ali helped to chase down with 25 balls to spare. Sarfaraz Ahmed also found some little form at the backend of the chase with 9-ball 16.
Squad: Sarfaraz Ahmed, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Khan, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah, James Faulkner, Umar Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Ben Duckett, Khurram Shehzad, Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, Muhammad Ashar Quresh, Ahsan Ali, Luke Wood, Ghulam Mudassar, Dan Lawrence, Will Smeed, Ali Imran, Shimron Hetmyer
The match will start on 7.30 pm with toss taking place 30 minutes before the proceedings
