Zalmi's honorary president, Inzamam-ul-Haq, sheltered his team's captain, Babar Azam, amid critique from former New Zeland cricketer, Simon Doull.

Babar was criticised by Doull for slowing down to complete his maiden PSL century during the match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday.

Babar was on 80 off 44 at one point but took 16 more deliveries to get to his century, completing it by hitting a boundary.

Former Pakistan cricketer, while talking on a local talk show, came in support of the 28-year-old captain and emphasized that in hindsight only, they realized that they were short off a defendable target.

"Sammy and Cadmore were discussing the bowling attack of Zalmi. So I went and told them that we were short of 25 runs. Cadmore insisted we were short of 40 runs, given the fact that ten balls were left," Inzamam cheekily said.

"Although Babar was slow for a brief period, but I think what he was thinking at the point of time that we might have scored enough - 240 is a big total - but later things panned out that we should have scored a little more runs. I am not sure of Babar's frame of mind while scoring his century, but sometimes it is also difficult to hit boundaries at your will." he added.
