Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the Hundred competition with a calf injury, missing Manchester Originals' first three matches and now confirmed to be out for the remainder of the tournament.

Buttler, who took a short break after the T20 World Cup, sustained the injury while preparing for the Hundred. Despite initial hopes that he might return later in the competition, recent scans showed that the injury would keep him sidelined.

England's managing director Rob Key had recently assured that Buttler would remain as England's white-ball captain despite the departure of coach Matthew Mott. Marcus Trescothick will temporarily take over as coach for September's series against Australia, with Buttler expected to be fit for the first T20I on September 11.

Buttler expressed his disappointment on Instagram, saying, "Gutted to be missing the Hundred this year. Best of luck to the Manchester Originals for the rest of the campaign. Working hard to be 100% fit asap."

The Manchester Originals, who were runners-up in the last two editions of the Hundred, are struggling this year without Buttler, having yet to win a match. Phil Salt has stepped in as captain but has struggled with the bat, managing only 23 runs in three innings.

The Originals had initially considered bringing in Keaton Jennings as a replacement, but the move was delayed due to confusion over Buttler’s injury status. Jennings has since joined the London Spirit, and the Originals are still looking for a replacement ahead of their next game against Northern Superchargers.
