Former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has expressed his enthusiasm after being named the assistant coach for all formats of the Pakistan cricket team on Sunday.

Mahmood recently took on the role of head coach for the national men’s team during the home T20I series against New Zealand.

Mahmood is looking forward to collaborating with head coach Gary Kirsten in white-ball cricket and Jason Gillespie, the Test cricket coach.

"Being appointed as the Assistant Head coach for all formats is an immense privilege and honor, allowing me the opportunity to serve my country once again," Mahmood wrote on X.

"Pakistan and cricket have bestowed upon me a name and honor, and I am eager to give back what I can to the game that has given me so much. With our combined wealth of experience and knowledge, I am optimistic about making a significant contribution to the Pakistan team. I firmly believe that perseverance, belief, and discipline are the cornerstone of a team’s growth," he further added.

Mahmood looks forward to his new role and acknowledges the importance of fan support as the team embarks on this journey.

"I am eagerly looking forward to this new role, and I recognize that the support and prayers of our fans are crucial as we embark on this journey together," he wrote.

It is worth noting that the PCB has appointed Gary Kirsten from South Africa and Jason Gillespie from Australia as head coaches for the men's national cricket team. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement at a press conference held in Lahore on Sunday.
