Former England cricket captain and commentator Mike Atherton has praised young batter Harry Brook for his performance in the recent Test series against Pakistan.

Atherton said that Brook has great enthusiasm for Test cricket, and that his success in the series was due to the fact that the pitches were very flat, which made them favorable for batting.

"It is an interesting question, I put it to Harry Brook actually in an interview I did with him before the second Test in Multan and I said how important was the PSL experience. He said it was always good to go to a country where you have done well and feel comfortable," Atherton in an exclusive interview with a local media platform.

"He has got a much better record in Pakistan as compared to Australia say. He struggled in the Big Bash and in the World T20. He said it wasn't much do with the PSL or the country, just the fact that pitches are very batter friendly in Pakistan so it was that above all.

"Who doesn't like to be a batter in Pakistan on pitches where it doesn't bounce much above stump height and don't really deviate much. So that was the point he made, just that the conditions are so favourable for batting that he felt very comfortable and confident that things will go very well for him. He played superbly throughout the tour," he maintained.

Brook scored a hundred in each of the three Test matches in Lahore, and has also played for the Pakistan Super League franchise Lahore Qalandars.

Atherton also mentioned that Brook has a better record in Pakistan than in other countries, and that his enthusiasm for five-day cricket is a positive sign for his future as an all-format player.

"I have no idea what they are going to do, these things often sort themselves out. Somebody might get injured in the New Zealand, or ahead of the Ashes. But if everybody is fit, what England will be doing is a very interesting question.

"In terms of Brook as an all-format player, one of the really nice things to hear in the interview I did with him in Multan is his enthusiasm to play five-day cricket. He obviously loves T20 cricket, he is a dasher and won't hang around."
