Former Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has offered valuable insights into the captaincy of Babar Azam, emphasizing the importance of experience and continuous improvement for him.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Misbah highlighted the significance of experience in enhancing captaincy, stressing that there is always room for improvement.

He specifically noted that Babar needs to strengthen his tactical abilities and address past mistakes to become a more effective captain.

"Experience always enhances the captaincy, and there is always room for improvement. Babar needs to be stronger tactically. He needs to improve tactically on the mistakes we noticed in the past," Misbah said.

Misbah also acknowledged Babar's ability to rally the team together at the start of the T20 World Cup, praising his support for the players. However, he emphasized the need for Babar to back the players for the right reasons, cautioning against support driven by incorrect motives.

"One thing Babar did well was rallying the team together at the start of the T20 World Cup, backing the players. Babar needs to try to back the players for the right reasons, not for the wrong ones. This is something Babar needs to learn. Secondly, he needs to be better tactically as a captain," he further added.

Furthermore, Misbah emphasized the importance of setting an example as a captain. He urged Babar to lead by example in terms of performance, fitness, and overall conduct, highlighting that such leadership can inspire and motivate the team to strive for excellence.

"Lastly, the most important thing that I always say is setting an example. In your performances, your fitness, in everything, you have to push others by setting an example that everyone should do this. When you do this, improvement will come," he concluded.
