Mohammad Amir voices support for former skipper Babar Azam

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir, has expressed his full support for former skipper, Babar Azam's decision to step down from the national team's leadership role. 

While speaking on a local news channel, Amir commended Azam's move and encouraged him to embrace this change as a challenge.

“This is my advice to Babar [Azam] that he should take this thing [leaving captaincy] as a challenge. He has nothing to prove as a player,” Amir said. 

“[Virat] Kohli got to know through social media that he was removed from the captaincy,” he added.

On the otherhand, all-rounder Imad Wasim, also lauds the 29-year-old's choice, emphasizing that relinquishing the captaincy would allow him to focus entirely on his batting without the additional burden of leadership responsibilities.

“I think Babar Azam’s decision is great. He can now [entirely] focus on his batting without the extra pressure of captaincy. There is so much pressure [of captaincy],” Imad said. 

Imad also went on to express his support for the new T20I captain, Shaheen Afridi.

“I want to welcome Shaheen Afridi as a T20I captain,” he concluded.

Few days back, the right-hand batter stepped down from captaincy in all formats following a meeting with Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee.

Following Babar's departure, PCB revealed the new captains for both the shorter and longer formats of cricket. Shan Masood was appointed as the captain of the Test team, while Shaheen Afridi was chosen to lead the national team in the T20 format.
