A high-scoring spectacle unfolded during the clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) on March 27th at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged victorious by a margin of 31 runs, catalyzing the shattering of multiple T20 records.

Opting to bat first, SRH showcased an explosive batting display, amassing a formidable total of 277 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs. Travis Head initiated the onslaught, notching a rapid fifty off just 18 balls, followed by Abhishek Sharma's blistering half-century in 16 balls. The momentum continued with Heinrich Klaasen's powerhouse innings, smashing an unbeaten 80 off 34 deliveries, embellished with 4 boundaries and 7 towering sixes. With the exception of Jasprit Bumrah, the Mumbai Indians' bowlers struggled, evident from their economy rates, with 17-year-old debutant Kwena Maphaka conceding 66 runs in his spell of 4 overs.

In pursuit of the mammoth target, Mumbai Indians displayed aggression, keeping the scoreboard ticking with shots dispatched to all parts of the ground. Crossing the halfway mark, they appeared well-positioned for a successful chase. However, their efforts fell short as they concluded their innings at 246 for 5 in 20 overs.

This electrifying encounter between SRH and MI resulted in the rewriting of T20 record books:

Highest aggregate runs: The clash between SRH and MI set a new record for the highest aggregate runs in a T20 game, with a staggering total of 523 runs. Surpassing the previous record of 517 runs set during a T20I encounter between South Africa and West Indies in March 2023 at SuperSport Park, Centurion. Remarkably, it marked the fifth instance of a T20 match witnessing over 500 runs being scored.

Most sixes in a T20 match: The SRH versus MI encounter witnessed a barrage of 38 sixes, establishing a new record for the most sixes in a T20 match. This eclipsed the previous record of 37 sixes, achieved twice before. Once during a match in the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League between Balkh Legends and Kabul Zwanan, and again during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2019 fixture between Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
